can everyone be hypnotised?

The truth is you cannot force someone into hypnosis.  I've had many people say to me "you'll never be able to hypnotise me" to which my reply is always "that's true"  If someone fights against hypnosis then it's a pointless exercise.

Hypnosis is a co-operative agreement between the client and the hypnotherapist which is key as change won't happen otherwise.  Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that we go in and out of every single day.

is hypnosis mind control?

There are so many myths around hypnosis that it scares me and probably other people too!   Stage hypnosis for entertainment has given the impression people can be controlled.

Truth:

All hypnosis is self hypnosis - what do I mean by that? You are the one who allows yourself to go into trance - the hypnotist cannot force you. It is a co-operative relationship where you work together to achieve an outcome.

You see, your brain's no1 priority is to keep you safe. Any suggestions to 'cluck like a chicken' will simply be ignored unless you of course want to cluck like a chicken ...anything that goes against your values will be rejected by you.

Hypnotherapy is a very safe practice and can be a wonderful experience providing you with a quick and effective change to gain relief from strong emotions, emotional baggage, trauma, struggle or making progress toward achieving something you want

In short hypnotherapy is safe - you are in the one in control

am I asleep during hypnosis?

For a long time hypnosis has been associated with a sleep like state and sometimes a zombie state!

You are definitely not asleep in hypnosis although it has been known for people to fall asleep during hypnotherapy sessions because they may allow themselves to relax deeply.

The zombie like state stems from stage hypnotism where the hypnotist looks like he is in control and can get people to act like a zombie!

People have often commented on hypnosis being like a sleep like state and this is often because they are soooo relaxed - when they emerge from the trance, they often feel like they are waking up

I would say it can be more like a sleepy state akin to just before you fall asleep or when you first awaken.

However, you are aware of everything that is happening which is often where people saying 'I didn't think I was hypnotised' comes from - they expected to be asleep or more like a zombie!

can i get stuck in hypnosis?

The answer is NO.  Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that we go in and out of each day. Such as driving, our thoughts are often elsewhere sometimes we forget which route we took home.  If a red light suddenly shows we can be miles away in thought - and  yet we react and stop (hopefully) - basically we came out of the trance like state we were in

I have never heard of one case where someone got stuck in hypnosis

If the therapist left you in a trance or hypnotic state - you would simply bring yourself out naturally and many hypnotists will often do this and allow the client to bring themselves out of hypnosis when they are ready - usually that happens in a matter of minutes

Will you make me do something with which I am not comfortable?

Definitely not. The truth is our brain's number one priority is to protect us. If I tried to change something or make you do something that went against who you are, your values and beliefs - you would notice in a nano second. You would either reject it or bring yourself out of hypnosis

This is one of the most common questions people ask and also can you make me cluck like a chicken!

This is because of stage hypnosis, which don't forget is entertainment.  The hypnotist looks like he can control anyone and make them do anything. He picks his subjects carefully!

Hypnosis is very safe and actually has many benefits for the mind and body

What does hypnosis feel like?

It is difficult to say what hypnosis feels like as everyone's experience is different.

Sometimes people say they were so relaxed they didn't want to come out of it

Hypnosis can be a relaxed state where you are much more focused or can feel like you aren't listening at all and just floating off enjoying it.
